I got to hang out with Bella, one of the sweetest dogs up for adoption. This sweet gal is looking for her forever home. Bella has lots of love to give! She may not be the most agile pup around but give her a toy and her activity level goes from 9 years to 9 months old! On September 27, 2018 Links of Love toured the new Feed Nova Scotia warehouse in Burnside Park, Dartmouth Nova Scotia. Feed Nova Scotia fill food banks all over the province from North Sydney to Yarmouth and every food bank in between. Feed Nova Scotia ship out over 8,000 KG of food a day. A $100 donation was presented to Feed Nova Scotia on behalf of the Links of Love initiative. Thank you.  I was told that the $100 donation will buy 150 meals. That is amazing. We are making a difference one link at a time. 

On September 28, 2018 Links of Love had a tour of the mission. We presented them with a $100 cheque. $100 will provide breakfast for 88 people.  We also donated on behalf of Share The Warmth - 40 winter coats and two bags of winter accessories. We had a tour of the kitchen where they serve over 60 hot breakfast meals a day to the community in need.  The really try hard to create a safe environment for the people who need them at the Mission.

On October 9, 2018 We met with Ernie Hilton and Renee Stevens at the Homebridge Youth Society. Links of Love presented cheque #4 and #5 a total of $200 which will be put towards the special holiday fund. The money will help fill 8 of 40 holiday stockings that they fill every Christmas.    Update on Bear*

Bear’s medical surgery was a success! We removed three more buried quills from his forehead, tongue and eye. Although his eye is very swollen right now, he will have a full recovery. Bear is on antibiotics, eye and pain medication to keep him comfortable while he recovers.

On behalf of Bear, we want to thank all the generous animal-lovers who donated to help cover the cost of his surgeries and care on his journey to recovery. Bear has felt your love and support from all throughout Canada! Thanks to your donations, Bear is going to have a second-chance at a safe, happy and healthy life. Thank you!!

Our Enforcement team led a careful investigation and as a result, charges were laid against Bear’s previous owner under the Animal Protection Act. Further details cannot be released relating to the investigation as we do not want to compromise any court proceedings. It will take time, but with your support we will fight for justice for Bear.

While Bear is healing, he is not feeling well enough to entertain adoption interest and is not accepting applications or visitors at this time. Our veterinary team continue to monitor him closely. Once he is medically cleared, we will post him on our SPCA adoptables page.

"Well #cookiesforcadets was a success we started with 150 bags of cookies and 24 cupcakes, 1 date bread loaf and a boiled raisin cake. We sold the cookies for $1 a bag and cupcakes were sold by donation. We did a raffle for for the boiled newfie cake and date bread loaf. Big thank you to all the parents and cadets who made the deliciousness happen. Also thank you to CPo2 Madore and Po2 MacDonald- Miles for representing Maggie so well.

So many people came to me afterwards and said how wonderful the cadets did including MLA Bill Horne and MP Darrell Samson. Huge shout out to LWF Community Hall and @nick Yeomans for allowing us to peddle our cookies for cadets during wing night. And the community of Fall river for your support and a huge Maggie hug to Patrick H. Healey for getting us a table at the FRABA - Fall River and Area Business Association also thank you to Kayla Watton and Shirley Fortune Miles these two lovely ladies are not cadets or cadet parents but they wanted to help support the Maggie cadets. Sooo in saying at that we raised an total of $352 dollars. Due to venue issues (too many to mention)we were not able to sell the Links of Love to help support the cadets. So we decided to top the $352 up to $400 . We will bring in a cheque on Wednesday for $400 to help the cadets with the end of year trip.

HomeBridge Youth Society is a charitable, non-profit organization and was established by front line social workers who identified a need for residential care in the child welfare system. The organization grew to six residential, youth caring facilities throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality and a school program. Today, 40 high risk youth between the ages of 12 and 18 years old can be served in community settings at one time. Approximately 120 young people reside in their facilities annually. All the young people are in the temporary or permanent care of the Minister of Community Services.

In June 2005, a new name was welcomed to further describe the work of the organization and future planned directions. HomeBridge Youth Society has continued the work of the ADCRF with the ongoing commitments of the Nova Scotia Departments of Community Services, Education and Transportation and Public Works, and St. Paul's Home Board. An extended vision of corporate, charitable foundations and other public support is furthering HomeBridge Youth Society's ability to offer progressive therapeutic program opportunities for young people. http://www.homebridgeyouth.ca/

Happy Thanks Giving Everyone. I am so thankful that I have a roof over my head and clean water to drink and food to eat everyday. Did you know that over 800 volunteers who give their hearts, hands and hope to Feed Nova Scotia, Volunteers are the heart and soul of Feed Nova Scotia. With their generous donation of time and talent, they make it possible for at least 42,000 Nova Scotians to receive much-needed food support. Feed Nova Scotia mission is to increase food security through food distribution, education and collaboration. To achieve this, Feed Nova Scotia distribute almost 2 million kilograms of donated food to a member network of 143 food banks and meal programs across the province. Their role also extends beyond food, They support members as they build capacity to serve their communities, and help raise awareness of the challenges hunger and poverty create each day for thousands of Nova Scotians. Today November 16 marks the 75th anniversary of the HMCS Magnificent Air Craft Carrier. The Ships Motto was "We Stand On Guard". This Link of Love represents the three oceans that border Canada (Atlantic, Arctic and the Pacific) with beads to represent each of these bodies of water accompanied by a centre anchor. The bracelet is being sold to support the #24 RCSCC Magnificent (The Official Group) who the Sea Cadet Corp. is named after.
